The nights are getting lighter and blue skies becoming more frequent, which can only mean one thing: spring has officially sprung. It’s time to ditch the dark denim, leave the puffer coats behind (with one of the many storms this year brought..) and swap the WFH pyjamas with an SS22 wardrobe.
But what does this look like exactly? What aesthetics are we working this Spring? Whilst Spring 2021 was riddled with restrictions and WFH, this year we’re manifesting a hot-girl-fully-vaxxed spring and summer in which the streets are our runway and we’re putting on a show. We’re crawling our way out of a cold, dark season and we need a revival.
Pastels
Spring is notorious for pastels. Fresh, warmth, florals. This year, we’re giving lilac, pistachio green and baby blue their moment. The holy trinity of the pastel palette. Picture this: it’s a Saturday morning in April, and you wake up to the sound of the birds. The sun is coming through your curtains, and when you open your bedroom window the fresh air hits you instantly. It’s giving wholesome vibes, and you plan to meet up with the girls for a picnic in the park.
But what are we wearing that is going to make you feel comfy and cute? Spring and pastels come in hand in hand. It’s like Britney and Justin’s 2001 double denim ensemble; it just works. And the trend will never die, in my humble opinion. The sun is shining, but of course, we’re in England so that sunshine is deceiving. In this case, midi skirts are perfect. They’re timeless, and so simple to style! An absolute staple in my wardrobe. A pastel lilac, satin midi skirt paired with a white crop, oversized denim and stacked gold necklaces; you really can’t go wrong.
Alternatively, go for the wide leg, ripped blue denim jeans which are in, in, in this season, accompanied by a pastel pistachio blazer 2 sizes too big. Sophisticated, but make it spring. And obviously your outfit isn’t isn’t complete without a bag. Crochet screams spring, so why not carry the trend on your shoulder? Frolicking around a daisy field mode: activated.
Big, bold, bright
Although we’re always here for a pastel moment in Spring, the SS22 runways were giving bold. Big, bold, and bright, and taking us right back to the ’80s with the prints. It’s a different take on the traditional pastel florals and I love it! Fuchsia and tangerine were definitely making a statement. Versace gave us a fuchsia tailored suit with a cut-out, tangerine crop underneath and it was a vibe.
Similarly, Molly Goddard served us a flouncy, hot pink midi dress perfected by a pair of bold orange ballet pumps, whilst Gucci took a lime green bodysuit, a satin emerald blazer and fuchsia heeled sandals creating an absolute feast for the eyeballs. I am obsessed. Take up space! Be bold! Let the prints clash! Make people stare for all the right reasons this Spring, because we all need a pop of colour in our lives, don’t we?
y2k
We can’t talk fashion trends without giving Euphoria an honourable mention. The hyper-feminine, the low-rise bottoms, the strappy details, this spring we are celebrating bodies and identities in all their glory. Bib collars, blouson, puff sleeves and pastel smock dresses are making an ultimate comeback this spring giving a nod towards traditional femme fashion.
Channel your inner Maddy Perez with a low-rise Y2K mini skirt and a multi-strapped, cut-out detailed top straight off of the runway. Fashion is an art, a means of self-expression, and spring 2022 is the perfect opportunity to just do you. Whether that be the timeless pastels, bold prints courtesy of Gucci or giving a tribute to y2k, I’m here for it.
