Global pop sensation Taylor Swift has announced a concert film for her ongoing Eras stadium tour, much to the delight of adoring fans.

The Eras Tour Concert film is set to be released exclusively in North American theatres on October 13th. This premiere comes just two weeks before the unveiling of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the latest instalment of Swift’s journey through her album re-records.

Long Live the Magic

The Eras Tour follows Swift through her 10-album-strong discography, promising more than three hours of joy for North American Swifties. With a confirmed run time of three hours and five minutes, the film is likely to encapsulate the entire show, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage. The film, directed by Sam Wrench, was recorded at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles across Swift’s six-night stint in August.

Big Reputation

In collaboration with AMC Theatres, Taylor Swift announced the Eras Tour Concert film live on Good Morning America on August 31st. Predictably, the excitement amongst fans was palpable from the offset.

Within five hours of tickets going on sale, AMC Theatres saw records being broken. The concert film racked up the highest ticket presales in a single day in the company’s history. Partner site Fandango reported similar success, comparing ticket sale demand to that of Avengers: Endgame and Spiderman: No Way Home. Experts predict the film will make over $100 million in its opening weekend.

“CNN speculated that the Eras Tour will become the highest-grossing tour of all time”

Forbes magazine heralded the Eras Tour as the “biggest tour of the year”, surpassing even Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour. Given that CNN speculated that the Eras Tour will become the highest-grossing tour of all time, this is perhaps unsurprising. Even just across the 53 shows of its North American leg, the Eras Tour has had a tremendous cultural and economic impact. Therefore, in looking forward to the upcoming film, fans are excited to see from Swift’s perspective what it takes to put on such a successful show.

Swift’s decision to partner with AMC Theatres for the concert film comes amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes. This is despite the fact that Netflix has the streaming rights to both the Reputation tour film and her documentary Miss Americana. Under an interim agreement covering individual non-AMPTP projects, Swift and her team ensured the film met the standards set by the union before entering into production.

Counting Days, Counting Miles

There has been no mention of when international Swifties can expect the film to reach their big screens. However, with live shows set to begin next year in Asia, Australia, Europe and the UK, there is hope that cinemas around the world will be screening the film in 2024.

So, only one question remains. Are you ready for it?
