Welcome to Empoword Journalism!
Empoword Journalism is an award-winning publication led by women. We aim to unite and empower female and non-binary journalists across the globe.
In May 2020, during the first COVID-19 lockdown, a group of young journalists attended a workshop with Sky News’ Kay Burley. She encouraged the attendees to document their experiences of the pandemic, and the Women in Journalism Project was born.
Since then, we’ve rebranded to Empoword Journalism (EJ) and have grown to a team of over 40 Editors, over 1,000 contributors, and almost 10,000 followers across social media.
We won Best Newcomer Publication at the 2021 SPA awards, and have been highly commended for Best Overall Digital Media for the last two years in a row.
What Do We Do?
We want our platform to be as inclusive as possible, creating a welcoming environment for anyone who feels marginalised in the journalism industry.
Empoword is a media outlet where you can get all the writing experience you need. You can create a range of new content and receive constructive and kind feedback on your work.
We pride ourselves on fostering a sense of community, combatting the competitiveness of the media industry. We always want to improve, so do let us know any feedback you may have. Eleanor, our admin editor, can be reached here: empowordqueries@gmail.com.
Want To Get Involved?
Join our Facebook group and sign up as a contributor!
In this group, you’ll get all the info you need about upcoming projects, content call-outs for the individual sections and access to our community of women who can help with any questions you may have about the industry.
Are we on social media you might ask? Of course! This is where your work will be posted – give us a follow! The more you share, the further we can go…
