Halloween is a time for A-list celebrities to show off their elaborate, one-night-only transformations. With an abundance of top stylists and MUAs, some simple devil horns just won’t cut it. This is my breakdown of some of the best Halloween costumes that we saw this Halloween.

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum is known as the Queen of Halloween. Some of her most notable past costumes were Jessica Rabbit in 2015 and the clones of Heidi Klum in 2016. But due to the pandemic, she hasn’t been able to host her usual lavish Halloween bashes.

This year, she returned with a bang – or should I say a wiggle – for her 21st annual Halloween party, dressed as a worm. Underneath the worm’s gross exterior, Klum wore a sheer lingerie jumpsuit. The disturbing costume took her two years to come up with, working with the incredibly talented make-up artist Mike Mario and his team of ‘Prosthetic Renaissance,’ who are her go-to Halloween glam team. Klum’s husband, Tom Kaulitz, also went on theme, dressing as the fisherman that “hooked” her.

We can’t expect much less from the Halloween Queen herself. I can’t say it wasn’t unoriginal, but it’s definitely a Halloween costume to remember.

Kylie Jenner

Over the past few years, Kylie Jenner has upped her Halloween game. Obviously, her 2016 Christiana Aguilera was iconic, but she topped it with her mother and daughter matching butterfly costumes in 2018.

This year she outperformed all the rest, by doing not one, but four costumes- the Bride of Frankenstein, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, an outer space astronaut, and an alien.

My personal favourite of hers this year was her Bride of Frankenstein – how can it not be? Her mummy-style dress was from Jean Paul Gaultier’s archive – obviously!

Just in case all these costumes from Kylie were not enough, she dressed up as an Angel with Stormi, captioning her TikTok, ‘Stormi said let’s be angels.’

Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch and Camila Mendes

Surprisingly, my favourite costumes of the year were Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch, and Camila Mendes as the witches from Hocus Pocus. The Riverdale stars looked like a hotter version of the Sanderson sisters, and it suited them so well. I haven’t seen many other people dress up as the witches from Hocus Pocus before, but it’s a perfect costume for the blonde, redhead, and brunette trio.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is always elaborate in her Halloween costumes. Throughout the years, she’s dressed up as Anna Wintour in 2014, Madonna in 2017, Pamela Anderson in 2018, a worm in 2019 (not quite as worm-like as Heidi Klum’s costume, however), and a spider in 2020.

This year she went blue as Mystique from Marvel’s X-Men films. Somehow Kim K can always make her Halloween costumes unique and sexy, even with her blue latex bodysuit and yellow contact lenses. But this year, I think little sister Kylie won out of the Kardashian/Jenner clan.

Lizzo

Last year I loved Lizzo’s Yoda costume, so I was excited to see what she would bring us this year. She did not disappoint in bringing us four great Halloween costumes: Christian Rock, Marge Simpson, the viral Woo Wop emo kid, and Miss Piggy. She painted herself head-to-toe in yellow (including yellow acrylic nails) to transform herself into Marge Simpson, and became a foul-mouthed NSFW Miss Piggy the next day.

Lizzo’s dedication to Halloween is always honourable, and I always enjoy that she doesn’t take the generic costume options.

Honourable Mentions

I need to mention TikToker Addison Rae dressing up as Lady Gaga’s performance look of ‘Paparazzi’ from the 2009 VMAs, fake blood and all. I am excited to see what Addison Rae has to offer over the next few Halloweens.

Kendell Jenner poked fun at herself this year by dressing as a cucumber from the viral video of her strange way of cutting a cucumber (seriously… look it up).

Roll on next year!
