Pet Shop Boys released their most recent album, Nonetheless, on 26th April 2024. We were blessed with track 2 on this album, ‘Feel’, which is also the fourth single. Plus, they’ve recently dropped a hit music video to accompany it.
Pet Shop Boys are a synth-pop duo who began back in 1981 and have released many incredible tracks since. The duo is composed of Neil Tennant, the extraordinary vocalist and Chris Lowe, a keyboardist. They have had a lot of success over the years and have often reached number one on the charts. They also received a Brit Award in 2009.
“Pet Shop Boys never fail to release a hit song and amaze their fans”
‘Feel’
‘Feel’ by Pet Shop Boys is a synth-pop track with a generally soothing and calming disposition, one that will charm and appeal to anyone wanting some escapism.
The track’s beat has a techno vibe to it and provides a lot of ‘out of this world’ energy. It progressively gets faster, especially for the chorus and the production is striking, because it is able to offer a sense of escape from reality. James Ford was the producer of this track, adding a fast pop background to it.
Although Pet Shop Boys have their own unique sound entirely, some resemblance can be found in musical duo Driver Era. The production of their tracks are both rich in energy.
Tennant’s voice adds to this freeing feeling of escapism, thanks to his soothing touch. The lyrics “you make me feel like nobody else can” are repeated throughout the chorus. The simplicity of these words makes them effective at getting meaning across in a striking way.
Music video
The recently released music video consists of a British road trip, featuring Sam Bottomley and Tareq Al-Jeddal. During the video, various lyrics within the song can be found outside of the windows and there is also a sign that says ‘escapism’ where locations on motorways would be listed. This can be seen as symbolic of driving towards freedom, which is what this song as a whole feels like. Upon reaching their destination, they get out of the car and run.
“They have had a lot of success over the years and have often reached number one on the charts.”
The music video, directed by Corbin Shaw, is particularly striking because of how the symbolism mirrors the meaning and general feeling the song provides. There is a freeing feeling that is accompanied through listening to this song.
Pet Shop Boys never fail to release a hit song and amaze their fans. Their sound is completely fresh and unique to them. You can find their album here.
