Since the hotly anticipated ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ returned to our screens, there have been plenty of drama and trials. See below for a roundup of the 2022 series so far.

Back in Australia for the first time since 2019, 12 celebrities made the journey Down Under to spend three weeks in the Australian jungle. This year’s campmates were announced as:

  • Mike Tindall
  • Charlene White
  • Babatunde Aleshe
  • Scarlette Douglas
  • Boy George
  • Jill Scott
  • Owen Warner
  • Sue Cleaver
  • Olivia Attwood
  • Chris Moyles
  • Seann Walsh
  • Matt Hancock

The first few days

This year’s series kicked off on Sunday 6 November at 9pm on ITV1. In the first episode, the first 10 celebrities (excluding Matt and Seann as late arrivals) were split into two groups of five.

From each group, two celebrities were chosen as VIPs and were provided with a brunch before their descent into the jungle. The lucky four were Olivia Attwood and Chris Moyles, and Boy George and Scarlette Douglas.

“Olivia Attwood and Chris Moyles jumped out of a plane – strapped to a skydiver of course”

The remaining celebrities were tasked with their first trial for camp – walking the plank. Jill and Charlene completed the trial – but the words ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!’ were uttered for the first time this year by Babatunde.

On the opposite team, we saw Sue Cleaver, Mike Tindall, and Owen Warner complete their own trial for camp to win stars for food.

The VIPs’ entrances were not to be forgotten, either. Olivia Attwood and Chris Moyles jumped out of a plane – strapped to a skydiver of course – and landed on an isolated island. Boy George and Scarlette Douglas joined them later.

Marooned on the island, the four VIPs were tasked with the first Bushtucker Trial of the series, ‘HMS Down Under.’ They won a total of eight stars for camp.

After this, Olivia Attwood’s departure from I’m A Celebrity was announced, as advised by the jungle medics.

Next came the second Bushtucker Trial of the series. The public voted for Babatunde to complete ‘Horrifying Heights,’ where he won the maximum possible nine stars.

“the arrival of Matt Hancock and Seann Walsh seemed to disturb the atmosphere”

It was at this point in the show, when the campmates were settling in and starting to get to know one another, that the arrival of Matt Hancock and Seann Walsh seemed to disturb the atmosphere.

Upon entering the jungle, Matt and Seann completed the ‘The Beastly Burrow’ trial.

Matt and Seann were tasked with being ‘undercover moles.’ This entailed them completing missions, such as calling Chris Moyles ‘Greg’ three times and stealing various paraphernalia from camp. By enlisting the help of Jill and Scarlette, they won luxury items from the campmates.

Matt Hancock controversy

The buzz surrounding Matt’s entry was not confined solely to camp. In subsequent days, he was voted to complete the daily Bushtucker Trials by the public a total of six times.

His trials included, ‘Tentacles of Terror,’ ‘La Cucaracha Café,’ (an eating challenge with Boy George), ‘Who Wants to Look Silly on Air?’ (a joint trial with Owen), ‘House of Horrors,’ and ‘Deserted Down Under.’

Matt’s run of Bushtucker Trials ended with ‘Angel of Agony,’ when the public voted for Chris, Babatunde, and Boy George instead. They won three stars out of a possible 11.

Trials and tribulations

Alongside the daily trials, the campmates were also tasked with various jobs. Mike Tindall and Matt Hancock went head-to-head in a leadership contest, employing Sue Cleaver and Charlene White as deputies respectively. Matt came out victorious from the contest.

As head of the camp, he and Charlene distributed jobs to the other campmates and were able to sleep in the RV. Charlene, however, chose not to.

Other daily tasks involved completing quizzes, puzzles, or games in order to win a treat for camp. Foods such as jellybeans, nachos, and custard creams were on offer to winners.

“Charlene and Boy George will attempt ‘Watery Grave’ in the latest bushtucker trial”

In last night’s episode, the staple of the day – the Bushtucker Trial – was again completed by Chris Moyles. He won one star in ‘Boiling Point’.

In tonight’s episode (Friday 18 November), Charlene and Boy George will attempt ‘Watery Grave’ in the latest bushtucker trial.

Hosted by Ant and Dec, ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ is available on ITV1 at 9pm, or on catch up at ITV Hub. The series continues.

Happy watching!
