Filled with enchantments, mystery and thrills, Agatha All Along is the perfect series to last beyond spooky season festivities.  

Agatha All Along is created as a spin-off from the series Wanda Vision (2021). The new Marvel Television series focuses on the character of Agatha Harkness, who also appeared in the Marvel Comics.

As we delve into the life of Agatha, we realise she may not quite be who she first seems.

Plot of Agatha All Along

The new series centres around the character of Agatha Harkness played by Kathryn Hahn. When we meet Agatha, at the start of the series, she is working as a detective, attempting to solve the death of a woman whose body has been recently found. Yet, the death of this woman and a mysterious intruder within her home leads Agatha to question the life that she has been living.

After watching the strange burglar recite a series of incantations before her, and discovering the identity of the deceased woman’s body to be ‘W. Maximoff’, Agatha begins to regain her memories of her former life as a witch.As Agatha discovers her true identity, she is reminded of the power that she previously lost and becomes set upon recovering her abilities to perform witchcraft.

In her bid to regain her abilities, Agatha is joined by the intruder Teen (Joe Locke), who is also on a mission to acquire magical power. Teen suggests that they will be able to find the power which they both desire by taking the Witches Road, which promises to provide extreme power to those that successfully reach its end.

All that is needed is for the pair to form a coven of others who are also eager to reap the benefits which the Witches Road promises. Joined by Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali- Ahn) and Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp), Agatha and Teen take the steps to journey down the Witches Road in the hope of finding what they most desire.

As their journey progresses, we see the coven face a series of tantalisingly dangerous tasks upon the road.

What can you expect?

When Agatha’s coven embarks upon the road, they are presented with a series of deadly tasks which require the witches to face their deepest fears and their individual pasts. These tasks create spine-tingling tension as we watch as each witch fights for her right to stay on the road, and more importantly fights to survive. Each episode brings intense drama and cliffhangers which will leave you desperate to know more.

The storyline of the series and its characters are shrouded in mystery, and while we are desperate to see whether each character will survive the road, we also wonder what each character’s unique story is.

Teen invites many questions over his identity from the beginning of the show, as we realise that he has been placed under an incantation which prevents him revealing his true name. He has lived a normal life and comes from a non-magic family, and so we are immediately forced to wonder how and why he has become involved in the world of witchcraft. As Teen embarks on this magical world, we become eager to solve the mystery of his former life.

“An impressive story of female empowerment and solidarity”

The dangers of the road surprise the youngster and he also becomes set on showing care for the other witches in the coven. The emotion which Teen shows makes him an endearing character from the show’s start, making us hope even further that he will find the answers that he needs from the road.

Agatha forms a conflicting persona to her companion Teen as she brings brazen sass to our screens whist on her journey to power. She is punchy and dynamic, making it almost impossible to not love her one line quips. Yet, like Teen, she does hold a mysterious past. This mystery is one of the standout elements of the show as we become enthralled in working out who these characters are truly.

While we are on the edge of our sofas for most of the series, we are also see moments of intense emotion as we become invested in the witches’ stories. While the coven is initially reluctant to form together, as the series progresses we see how the relationships between each witch develops on the road.

Lilia Calderu, Jennifer Kale and Alice Wu-Gulliver create moments of beautiful female friendship and show the importance of solidarity for achieving, and at points even for survival. Agatha All Along is therefore not just an exciting, spook-filled series but also an impressive story of female empowerment and solidarity.
