Rizzle Kicks are back with a brand new single, Javelin!

Rizzle Kicks are a pop-hip hop duo, initially based in Brighton England, consisting of Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule. After their eight-year musical hiatus in which they explored different aspects of their creative careers, they recently released their highly anticipated track ‘Javelin’ on 30th August 2024. This comeback has brought them into a whole new era of music, and they have definitely provided a joyful unique sound, unlike any other artists.

‘Javelin’

Javelin has an upbeat tempo that could get anybody on their feet dancing, even self-proclaimed non dancers. The quote from Stephens: “I’m a frequent user of magic mushrooms” also represents the general aura of the song, with the idea that it has a very trippy carefree attitude to it. It definitely allows listeners a sense of escapism through its vibrant energy and catchy tune.

“We’ve got to be more than just nostalgia”

The combination of their voices brings about an amazing sound with both the rap verses and the singing. Swindle and Ant Whiting produced this latest track and the beat is extraordinary, perfectly representing their radiance. The duo has worked with Ant Whiting before, however this was their first time with Swindle, and it was definitely a success. Swindle has previously worked with the likes of Kojey Radical.

Lyrics

“Rizzle Kicks appear to be on a journey providing a fresh sound”

The chorus has the lyric ‘we don’t need to worry about a thing’ which perfectly represents the feeling of this song in itself. Listening to it offers a very joyful, calming vibe, allowing one to place their problems behind them. Or, more accurately, allow them to ‘javelin in the air’. They also have the lyrics: ‘Yeah it’s time for the come back/ Yeah they want that,’ highlighting this iconic comeback of ‘fun rap’ and hip-hop beats.

The lyrics throughout the whole song are generally memorable, which definitely adds to the catchy beat and production. They are definitely lyrics that will be replaying like a mixtape inside your head.

Symbolism in Javelin

The title of the song in itself ‘Javelin’ is symbolic of letting go of their troubles and any previous problems. It could also suggest letting go of their previous musical image. They said: “We’ve got to be more than just nostalgia”, therefore being symbolic of entering a new era entirely musically.

The music industry has vastly changed over the last eight years, however with this latest track, Rizzle Kicks appear to be on a journey providing a fresh sound.

Music Video

The music video is incredible, including the two vibing and dancing outside, after playing a mixtape called ‘Rizzle Kicks weather’. The sign of this mixtape has made fans excited about potential new tracks on the way. The duo are sure to have everyone dancing on their feet like ‘Javelin’!

“There’s a lot of excitement for the new tracks and energy the duo will bring to the music world soon”

It also includes Savannah Blake, Shea Blake and Rio Black throwing shapes during different parts of the video. The focus on dancing is representative of how this beat makes one feel. The video starts with Jordan Stephens saying: “This is not my idea of a nice day out” and then ends with him saying “This is my idea of a very nice day out” – a social media reference that makes a vibrant ending to the vibrant song and shows how the ‘Rizzle Kicks mixtape’ adds to your day! It was directed by Lauren Luxemberg.

Although there is no release date at the moment, ideas of a third studio album by Rizzle Kicks are in the making. There’s a lot of excitement for the new tracks and energy the duo will bring to the music world soon.
