As we step into 2025, the world continues to witness good news in the form of both inspiring developments and events that shed a positive light on our civilisation.
2025 has already had an eventful first month with plenty of doom and gloom, but also lots of positive progress.
To celebrate these changes, here is a compilation of good news that has happened so far in 2025!
The Israel-Hamas Ceasefire
On the 15th of January, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement, bringing a halt to weeks of intense and violent conflict in Gaza.
International mediation from Egypt, Qatar and the United States helped secure the deal.
It includes a six-week phased release of both hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners detained by Israel, Middle East Eye reported.
Early reports say four Israeli hostages and 200 Palestinian prisoners have been freed as part of the agreement, with more soon to come, according to the BBC.
The ceasefire also aims to allow humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza to address the urgent needs of civilians in the region.
While immense challenges remain in ensuring long-term stability between the parties involved, civilians on both sides are celebrating the break.

The Princess of Wales expressed gratitude for the unconditional support of her family, medical team, and the public during her journey.
She said that her focus is now on her recovery.
Additionally, she went to the hospital where doctors treated her to meet with other patients and show support.
This news has been welcomed with widespread relief across the UK and beyond as Kate’s courage and openness continue to inspire many facing similar battles.
Thailand New Marriage Bill
Thailand has made history by becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to legalise same-sex marriage.
The law officially took effect on the 22nd of January, 2025.
This decision follows years of advocacy and marks a significant step forward for LGBTQ+ rights.
The new law grants same-sex couples the same legal rights and protections as heterosexual couples, including adoption and medical decision-making.
Many celebrations followed after the announcement was made, with couples tying the knot the same day the bill was passed.
EU Electricity of Solar Energy Surpasses Coal
In a grand shift toward renewable energy, a recent report showed that the European Union generated more electricity from solar power than coal for the first time in 2024.
Solar energy accounted for 11% of the EU’s total electricity generation, surpassing coal, which fell to 10 percent.
This milestone highlights the EU’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to cleaner energy sources.
The achievement reflects not only advancements in solar technology but also a significant decline in coal usage, marking a pivotal moment in Europe’s energy transition for a greener planet.
