This article contains spoilers for Killing Eve.
Killing Eve will shortly be coming to a close with its fourth season set to end the drama in 2022. Production is due to begin across the UK and Europe this summer in preparation for the release of its eight-episode series finale next year.
Killing Eve is a British dark humoured comedy-drama series and follows British intelligence agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) as she is tasked with the capture of assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the chase continues throughout the show, however, both characters develop a mutual obsession; one that puts both their lives in jeopardy.
Eve is a woman on the brink of self-destruction, caught in a heroic battle for justice. She is cutting in her dialogue yet gracefully naïve to the world around her despite serving as part of MI6. Villanelle, on the other hand, is an emotionless assassin playing on the insecurities of her foe. Whilst both women differ in style and personality, their persistent curiosity for the other leads these protagonists towards a frenzied and intertwined relationship.
“fans took to Twitter to mourn over the end of an era”
Since its launch on BBC America in April 2018 and BBC iPlayer in September 2018, viewers have been hooked on this BBC One drama, with fans saddened to hear the news that this show will finally be coming to an end next year – or will it?
After a tweet made by the official Killing Eve page on the 16th March, fans took to Twitter to mourn the end of an era.

Fan reaction
“I don’t need this ‘good news’ in my life right now. Are you kidding me?”, said one Twitter user.
“it’s only 1pm and you choose to stab me in the heart like that?”, said another.
Others, however, took a more nostalgic approach, excited to see what the next instalment would bring.
“omgomgomg ahhhh i’m so excited”, said one Twitter user.
Dan McDermott, president of the original programming for AMC Networks said, “Killing Eve exploded in popular culture and attracted a dedicated and committed fan base from its very first episode.”
“is set to be a finale to end all finales.”
“We could not be more thankful for the extraordinary talents and efforts of everyone involved” and “[w]e look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season“.
Laura Neal, the writer of Sex Education, is set to take over as head writer for Killing Eve‘s fourth and final instalment in what is set to be a finale to end all finales.
“Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for. Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember”, said Jodie Comer.
What can fans expect to see in this final instalment?
Next year is set to be an explosive end to a show that has occupied our screens for what will be the best part of four years.
The end of season three left us on a cliff-hanger: Eve and Villanelle unexpectedly reunited in what has been hinted at as being a large focus in season four. But things are looking to be different. With Eve no longer employed by MI6, and Villanelle assassinating a figure which has changed her reputation and status at the Twelve, season four is expected to be “a little bit more introspective”, according to Sally Woodward Gentle, a producer on the hit drama series.
As always, Killing Eve is set to surprise us with more action, drama, and intrigue. We are just going to have to wait that little bit longer to find out what exactly that will be…
Whilst producers have confirmed this to be the last season, it is rumoured that BBC America has begun talks on developing potential spinoffs – let’s hope these rumours are true.
