How have fashion trends adapted to/changed during the pandemic?

Over the last year, we have seen many fashion trends come and go. Sometimes they have been from what we have seen on TikTok or from influencers on social media. Other trends have come as a result of Covid-19 and we have adapted to make them fashionable. But with hardly any chance to leave the house for an occasion over the past 12 months, we have worn comfy clothes and sweats the majority of the time.

Loungewear

Loungewear has become part of the new normal, whether you are working from home, on furlough, studying, or relaxing, everyone has worn loungewear more than anything else this last year. This can be from what you have found when shopping online or what you may have seen on social media. One of the key styles that more or less everyone has purchased to lounge in or go out in throughout the pandemic is Zara basics, which were all over TikTok in the first lockdown.

Masks

At first, we all wore the surgical masks, but then when masks became legal, people began to match them to their outfits. Independent businesses and people started selling them as the demand rose, instead of just getting a plain black one people started to get sparkly ones, animal print, and checked print ones. Now every time we put a mask on, we check to make sure it is going to match the outfit, we have recently noticed this happen at the GRAMMYs this year.

Tie Dye

With boredom hitting and nothing much else to do, people have spent hours on TikTok. Do you remember the tie dye stage of lockdown one? Everyone wanted a tie dye tracksuit or top, and instead of just buying these which some did, others decided to make their own by following what people on TikTok did.

Cycling Shorts

After not having much to do in summer and spending months in our houses in our comfy clothes, there is no wonder many of us spent this summer wearing cycling shorts and a big t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie. Although cycling shorts have been popular at festivals in recent years, I saw a lot more people wearing them more casually last summer, particularly since many celebrities and influencers were also seen out in them.

Active Wear

But when we have been going out, we have either been going on a walk or for exercise. This may be why active wear has become a popular trend throughout Covid-19 because people have picked up new hobbies. I personally started running during the first lockdown and continue to do so now. People have also been doing more home workouts and what better way to motivate yourself than wearing a new matching gym set.
