Outer banks S2: Bahamas, drama and the unpredictable

Courtney Davies

Since many of us haven’t left the country to go on holiday, this year we must look at television shows for this form of escapism. And what better place to escape to than the North Carolina coast?

Season 1

The cast of Outer banks, in season one of the Netflix show, took us on a treasure hunt to find some missing gold after the North Carolina island was struck by a hurricane.

The Pogues, who are the poorer people of the island, consisted of John B, JJ and Pope. They were joined by Kie, a Kook, meaning she lived on the richer side of the island, but she defined herself a Pogue to spend time with her friends. The group of friends were given a helping hand by Sarah Cameron, a Kook. However, her family weren’t so happy about her hanging around with the Pogues. Particularly because her dad also wanted to find the gold. The first season left their friends and family thinking that John B and Sarah Cameron were dead. But instead they were on their way to the Bahamas.

Season 2

Fans waited just over a year for the second season to be released. It was confirmed that there would be another in July last year, and it certainly did not disappoint. Outer banks S2 is packed with drama, violence and the unexpected. It might as well be two seasons in one, leaving it a summer like no other.

“Outer banks S2 is packed with drama, violence and the unexpected.”

There are deaths, surprise appearances and a group of friends that would do anything to help each other. Even run away from their family. How else would you want to entertain your summer, especially when there are lots of people currently isolating? If you thought the first one was binge worthy enough to win a People’s Choice Award for Favourite Bingeworthy Show, then you best prepare yourself for the second because you won’t be able to move away from the screen.

John B and Sarah Cameron

But what makes us more obsessed with this season is that this time we know that two of the main characters, Chase Stokes (John B) and Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), are a couple in real life and not only on the screen. However, we imagine that their off-screen relationship isn’t as intense as their on-screen lives. The pair even won the 2021 MTV Movie Award for best kiss in season one. The couple confirmed their relationship on the 14th of June 2020 via an Instagram post from Chase captioning a picture of Madelyn on the beach: “Cats outta the bag”.

After season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, fans are hoping that season 3 won’t be far behind. But the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is making filming new productions more difficult. Although Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed a season 3 and we are unsure of how long we will have to wait, we can only hope.
