Lil Nas X has come a long way from the ‘Old Town Road’ and entered the fiery gates of hell in his new video for his latest single, ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’.
The video introduces us to the fantasy land of Montero, named after himself (Montero Lamar Hill), where he can embrace and embody his sexuality as he pleases. Making out with an alien version of himself, pole dancing, and giving a lap dance on the Devil are just some of the things to expect in this video.
The openly gay singer released a letter to his 14-year old self alongside the release of his single saying, “I know we never intended to come out publicly…I know we promised to die with the secret but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”

Whilst the song itself has received an abundance of positive feedback from fans, the video has caused uproar online amongst right-wing commentators. Due to its satanic denotations, the video has sparked outrage, with parents banning their children from listening to the song. One woman on Facebook wrote, “Lil Nas X is a whole new level on demonic. Some of y’all should check your kid’s playlists. Stay in the KNOW!” But, of course, in true Lil Nas X style, the singer clapped back and tweeted, “We made it to Facebook!!! LET’S GOOO!”

Already presenting a sultry vibe, the song encompasses a Spanish feel to it with the help of the rhythmic guitar throughout. The chorus is simple and repetitive yet extremely catchy and is definitely on track to become a big hit this summer, with the song already sitting at number one on the US iTunes Sales chart.
‘MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)’ is available via Columbia Records.
