Hit after hit, Olivia Rodrigo is proving to be a powerful force that is taking the music industry by storm.
‘Good 4’ u is the latest single to be released ahead of Rodrigo’s upcoming debut album SOUR, which is set to be released on 21 May.
Like her two previous singles, ‘good 4 u’ focuses on Rodrigo’s past relationship, which although not confirmed, is believed to have been with fellow Disney star, Joshua Bassett. With sarcastic lyrics like “well, good for you, I guess you moved on really easily” showing the song’s meaning of how ‘happy’ Rodrigo was for her former partner moving on so quickly.
The strong-hearted lyrics work perfectly with Rodrigo’s smooth and husky voice, and with the added touch of some powerful electric guitar, ‘good 4 u’ proves to be the perfect break-up song that makes you want to scream along.
The song is reminiscent of classic late 90’s break-up hits like ‘You Oughta Know’ by music legend Alanis Morissette and ‘Linger’ from the iconic band The Cranberries, but with an extra layer of teen angst added to the mix.
Along with the single, a music video starring the singer-songwriter was released, which sees Rodrigo go from an upset cheerleader to a vengeful fire starter.
With already three massive successful singles under her belt, we can only expect that her debut album SOUR won’t disappoint.
