Tyson Fury vows to retire from professional boxing after a victory against compatriot Dillian Whyte, retaining his WBC heavyweight world title.
In front of a record-breaking crowd of 94,000 fans in Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, the British fighter knocked out his opponent in the sixth round with a brutal uppercut, before reiterating a promise he made to his wife: to step away from the sport. In his post-fight interview, the boxing superstar called himself “the best heavyweight there’s ever been”; after his epic comeback in 2018 and his impressive unbeaten record, Fury really has little left to prove.

“I have to be a man of my word, and I think this might be the final curtain for the Gypsy King, and what a way to go out,” he said during his post-fight interview in the ring.
The 33-year old has promised his wife of 14 years that he would retire after winning his trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder last year, but the WBC heavyweight champion opted to defend his title against Whyte instead. He highlighted that he owed it to the fans to fight at Wembley at home.
Extending his unbeaten record to 32 wins and a draw, Fury dominated from the opening bell and celebrated in the incredible atmosphere produced by the crowd in Wembley.

Tyson Fury’s career has been one of extremes. He’s won some of the biggest fights in the last decade whilst also suffering badly with his mental health and becoming suicidal before making an outstanding comeback to the sport in 2018. Whether this is the end of his boxing career remains to be seen, with some predicting a return, but regardless, he will always be viewed as a popular, talented, charismatic and controversial sporting figure.
