Everyone loves a holiday, whether it’s going abroad or just having some time off work. With the tropical weather and sunshine we’ve had throughout lockdown who needs to go away when you can stay at home. As lockdown is being relaxed, more and more people are craving to travel abroad and go on holiday. However, going abroad this year won’t be for everyone as, for some people, there is still a lot of anxiety and uncertainty about travelling.
Last year I went on a staycation with two of my friends. I love travelling; however, I absolutely hate flying so that does make it slightly more difficult to go and explore places and see new things. My love of travel comes from wanting to explore and experience everything that’s out there, and for me there are still so many places in the UK that are worth travelling to.
Staying in the UK is great, the stress is completely minimised and you can take as much with you as you can carry. Although if you are like me then three outfit changes during the day is not excessive at all and don’t let anyone try and convince you otherwise!
“A short break in the UK is perfect and will really suit a lot of people who don’t want to risk going abroad.”
Last Summer I went to Whitby. It’s an absolutely gorgeous place and is an ideal seaside town to visit. Having a UK holiday meant that we were able to go for a long weekend and really make the most of it. We had a four day break filled with eating a lot of good food and seeking out the best coffee shops. I think we end up putting a lot of pressure on a holiday. If you are going somewhere rich in culture then you feel guilty if you aren’t constantly sight seeing. You may also feel guilty that you can’t switch off properly or be in the moment.
A short break in the UK is perfect and will really suit a lot of people who don’t want to risk going abroad. There are so many places in the UK that are just as beautiful as going away to somewhere like Greece or France, and you’re even luckier if the weather is on your side. We found that a staycation was perfect for us. The town was right at the end of the road from where we stayed and we were able to walk around for the day leisurely, without feeling like we had to cram everything in.
All in all, we had a really lovely time and even though lockdown is being relaxed and the idea of going abroad this year seems increasingly possible, I really think that more people should consider staying closer to home. As we’ve seen from recent news stories, going to your local seaside town isn’t the safest thing to do at the moment. However, there is a way that we can keep exploring new places and fueling our travel bug, even if they are on our doorsteps.
If you are thinking of going away, when it’s safe to do so, Trip Advisor will become your best friend. Find some great places to eat and don’t forget to pack your suncream.
