Inspirational quotes by Queen Elizabeth II

Wartime Broadcast with Princess Margaret

“When peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place. My sister is by my side and we are both going to say goodnight to you. Come on, Margaret. Goodnight, children. Goodnight, and good luck to you all.” – October 13 1940

The Queen’s 21st Birthday Speech

“I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” – April 21 1947

Coronation Speech

“The ceremonies you have seen today are ancient, and some of their origins are veiled in the mists of the past. But their spirit and their meaning shine through the ages never, perhaps, more brightly than now… I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.”-   June 2, 1953

The Queen’s First Televised Christmas Broadcast

“I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice. But I can do something else. I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.” – The Queen promised the United Kingdom she would give her “heart” and “devotion” to the Commonwealth, 1957

The Queen’s Christmas Broadcast

“It is difficult to realise that it was less than 50 years ago that women in Britain were first given the vote, but parliament was first asked to grant this 100 years ago. Yet, in spite of these disabilities, it has been women who have breathed gentleness and care into the harsh progress of mankind. The struggles against inhuman prejudice, against squalor, ignorance, and disease, have always owed a great deal to the determination and tenacity of women.” – 1966

“I am sure the custom of giving presents at Christmas will never die out, but I hope it will never overshadow the far more important presents we can give for the benefit of the future of the world. People of goodwill everywhere are working to build a world that will be a happier and more peaceful place in which to live. Let our prayers be for personal strength and conviction to play our own small part to bring that day nearer.”- 1966

Silver Wedding Anniversary

At the Guildhall, where the Lord Mayor and the Corporation of the City of London offered an anniversary lunch, Queen Elizabeth II spoke with a slight tremulousness that contrasted with her usual rather wooden delivery. She made her point in a very mild joke. “When the bishop was asked what he thought about sin,” she said, “he replied with the simple conviction that he was against it. If I am asked today what I think about family life after 25 years of marriage, I can answer with equal simplicity and conviction. I am for it.” – 1972

The Queen’s Response to Diana’s Death

“What I say to you now, as your queen and as a grandmother, I say from my heart … No one who knew Diana will ever forget her. Millions of others who never met her, but felt they knew her, will remember her. ‘I for one believe there are lessons to be drawn from her life and from the extraordinary and moving reaction to her death. I share in your determination to cherish her memory.” – September 1997

Golden Wedding Anniversary

“He is someone who doesn’t take easily to compliments but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.” – 1997

The Queen on The Rio Olympic Games

“To be inspirational you don’t have to save lives or win medals. I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special… They are an inspiration to those who know them.” – 2016

The Queen’s Covid-19 Address

“While we have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed – and that success will belong to every one of us. We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”- April 5, 2020
