With the new Formula One season approaching and some brand new faces making their way into the sport, we take a look at some of the moves and new names within the sport.
Alpine
Jack Doohan
Jack Doohan has been Alpine’s reserve driver since 2023, and for 2025, he has been given a permanent seat.
He has plenty of F3 and F2 wins under his belt and is ready to take on the pressure of being on the F1 grid.
Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso made his way onto the track in the early 2000s making him the oldest on the track.
He first started his career at Renault where he added his first title, during spells at McLaren and Ferrari Alonso failed to add any titles.
Alonso had two years away from racing and returned to the track with Alpine.
He then earned a seat at Aston Martin, where he became the first man to reach 400 Grand Prix starts.
Lance Stroll
Lance Stroll had his debut season back in 2017 for Williams. His first Podium came in Baku and he was the youngest to do so.
Stroll also became the youngest driver to line up in the front row at Monza.
Ferrari
Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc stepped into F1 in 2018, racing for Sauber. In 2019, he achieved both his dream as well as that of his late Godfather Jules Bianchi, earning a seat at Ferrari.
His first victory came at Spa and then a week later in Ferrari’s home of Monza.
During the 2024 season, Leclerc achieved another dream and won in his own country of Monaco.
This season, Leclerc is hoping Ferrari can do one better and win the constructors.
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton is the most decorated driver on the grid, with 202 podiums and winning the World Championships an impressive seven times.
He made his debut back in 2007, making him the first and still only black driver on the grid.
During the 2024 season, it was announced that Hamilton would be making the move from Mercedes, where he has been throughout his entire career, to Ferrari for 2025.
Hamilton is hoping with all his experience, he can bring Ferrari that constructor title.
Haas
Oliver Bearman
Oliver Bearman made his F1 debut in Saudi Arabia as a Ferrari Reserve.
This was his first taste of F1, and he was also a key part of putting the cars on track whilst still competing in F2, winning four races and placing sixth.
This all helped him secure his Haas seat for 2025 alongside Esteban Ocon.
Kick Suber
Gabriel Bortoleto
Gabriel Borotleto is the first Brazilian to compete in Formula One since 2017.
He captured back-to-back Formula 3 titles in 2023 and 2024, earning him a spot on the 2025 F1 track. The young driver is keen to make his name in the sport.
McLaren
Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri made his Formula One debut in 2023, with both McLaren and Alpine battling for the Rookie driver, and thankfully, it was McLaren who won the battle.
During the 2024 season, Piastri was a key part in helping McLaren secure their first Constructors’ title since 1998. Last season, he finished fourth in the driver standings.
Lando Norris
Lando Norris is no stranger to the tracks, making his debut in 2019. He had an impressive rookie season, narrowly missing out on the top 10 championship placing.
He landed his debut podium in 2020 and has since topped the podium 26 times. 2024 was Norris’s season, where he won three more podiums and led McLaren to their first Constructors’ title since 1998.
Mercedes
George Russell
George Russell started his Formula One career at Williams back in 2021 and put them back on the podium. I
In 2022, he made the move to Mercedes, and Russell took his first F1 win, and Mercedes’ only win in 2022 during the Brazil Grand Prix.
He topped the podium twice in 2023. He will now lead the team following Hamilton’s departure and will aim to get Mercedes a long-overdue constructor title.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli
Andrea Kimmi Antonelli began his career in both F2 and F3. He was a consistent point scorer and impressed Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
He got the chance to drive around the track in an F1 car during Monza and was shortly announced as Russell’s teammate afterwards.
Racing Bulls
Isack Hadjar
Isack Hadjar was the final driver to be announced.
Like the majority of the grid, Hadjar started his career in both F2 and F3, and Red Bull has given the young driver F1 practice by giving him outings in the AlphaTauri senior team.
Yuki Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda started racing in F1 for AlphaTauri. He had an impressive F2 debut and finished in third.
He has four F1 seasons under his belt and is hoping he can be the first Japanese driver to win a World Championship.
Red Bull Racing
Liam Lawson
Liam Lawson has earned his first seat in a Formula One car, although the New Zealand driver is no stranger to the F1 track.
Lawson filled in for Daniel Riccardo after the Australian broke his hand in the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.
In 2025, he got the call from Red Bull that he would be taking Sergio Perez’s seat in 2025 and making his full Formula One debut.
Williams
Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz started his Formula One career at Red Bull alongside Verstappen at Toro Rosso and very quickly made his name in the sport.
He replaced his childhood hero Alonso when he joined McLaren and then moved to Ferrari, where he partnered with Leclerc for four years. Now he’s at Williams for the latest challenge.
The F1 season starts on the 14th of March in Australia
